National
Forum on Older Volunteering
The
National Forum on Older Volunteering has been set up by RSVP for organisations
using or recruiting older volunteers. Its role is to facilitate the exchange
of news and information and to build on good practice between organisations.
Its members are from the public and private sector as well as from voluntary
organisations. The Forum meets quarterly in different parts of Scotland
in order to encourage wide participation.
At
each Forum meeting ideas and examples of innovative work are shared and
issues affecting older volunteers are raised. Barriers which may prevent
older people from volunteering are explored and means of removing them
discussed. Individual member organisations are invited to showcase aspects
of their work for particular projects on which they are engaged.
Issues
of particular interest and concern are fed back to the Scottish Executive
Voluntary Issues Unit to inform the work of the Scottish Executive Active
Communities Initiative, of which RSVP's work in Scotland forms a part.
